Here at Recovatech, we review a lot of recovery products. If we’re being honest, it’s not too often that we come across a product that really grabs our attention like the Hydragun has.
Breaking from the mundane mold of sameness, the Hydragun’s design is a fresh departure from what we’ve come to expect. The combination of hard lines and upscale materials meld together to make something unlike anything we’ve seen before.
Uniqueness aside, is the Hydragun worth your hard earned money? We’ll leave that final decision up to you, but for us it’s a top contender.
Hydragun: A Fresh New Take
Released in 2020, the Hydragun massage gun may be late to the percussion massage gun party, but certainly breathes new life into it.
It seems a bit counterintuitive to say given how much we love the Hydragun, but we weren’t immediately enamored by it. As we do, we try to keep abreast of all the latest products emerging onto the market. When we came across Hydragun’s website, we were less than impressed by what we saw. Let us explain.
Dating sites aside (we kid), have you ever seen a picture of something that didn’t quite live up to real life expectations? Or the opposite, perhaps you’ve been pleasantly surprised in person? If you’re picking up what we’re laying down, the latter applies to the Hydragun. This thing is incredible and it starts with, of all things, the packaging it comes in.
It may seem a strange thing to get excited by cardboard and paper, but hear us out. When you’re dropping a hefty sum of money on a new product, does the packaging matter? Ultimately no, but it’s a preamble of what to expect next. Like an iconic robin egg blue box from Tiffany & Co., you know what you’re about to open is going to be something special. And that’s exactly what you get here.
Hydragun: What’s All The Hype?
Ok, enough hyperbole about recylceables, let’s dive into what makes the Hydragun great.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t make mention of the carrying case first. It’s simplistic and functional in design. The molded interior is partitioned to accommodate the 6 various massage heads and massager, keeping things tidy. The case is a great addition to make it easier to haul your new-fangled massage gun to the gym, the office, or heck, even to travel abroad.
To turn the Hydragun on, press and hold the center power button for 2-3 seconds and do the same to turn it off when you’re finished. The power button is pressed to select your desired speed as well. Each click will incrementally increase the speed and power.
In total, what you have is massage gun that is precisely engineered to not only endure the ensuing abuse it will inevitably undergo, but do so with the utmost style.
Power & Performance
For a percussive massager, the Hydragun ticks all the right boxes for a couple of good reasons.
Is it powerful enough for even the brawniest of individuals, yet gentle enough for the more petite? You bet. The versatility of the Hydragun is what makes it such a great massage gun.
The 6 speed variable motor with SmoothDrive Technology is not only ultra quiet at 25-50dB (perhaps one of the quietest full size massage guns out there), but outputs a distinct amount of differentiating power per setting to be meaningful throughout the power band. In other words, you will positively feel a percussive difference with each speed.
We like to elaborate on that because there are some massage guns that come equipped with 20 speed motors. That may seem like you’re getting more for your money, but in reality they produce a fairly insignificant amount of power between each speed, nullifying any implied benefit.
The Hydargun has a max output of 3200RPM with 30lbs of stall force pressure. Stall force, for those not in the know, refers to the amount of pressure it takes to stop the motor. Thanks to its high-torque motor, the Hydragun is not going to stall out on you if you happen to apply too much downward pressure.
Unsure if you are pressing too hard? No worries because the Hydragun has a built in Stall Warning indicator. If all three lights are illuminated, you’re pressing too hard. Ease off a bit unless you prefer to bruise yourself. Fair warning.
Now would probably be a good time to mention that the battery life of the non-removable 2600 mAh lithium ion battery is rated at 6 hours. It should go without saying that your miles may vary depending on the intensity and speed at which you’re using it. With light to moderate use, you should have no issues netting at least 4-6 hours total.
Ultimately, we are very pleased with the overall performance of the Hydragun. It compares favorably to massage guns costing twice as much with a motor that can go from a kitten’s purr to the roar of a lion with aplomb.
Hydragun Accessories & Warranty
A massage gun review wouldn’t be complete without making mention of the included attachments. Making good on its Greek mythology namesake, the Hydragun comes with 6 massage heads, all of which claim to serve a specific purpose.
Since a very detailed manual is included that outlines their intended purpose, we’ll spare you the in-depth lecture. Suffice it to say, Hydragun has thoughtfully provided every massage head you’ll ever need and then some. In reality, we would wager that you will likely only use 2 of them 90% of the time. We all have our favorites.
It may not necessarily be a feature per se, but every Hydragun comes with a 18 month warranty should you ever have a problem.
If you do a bit of research, you will see that there are some copycats of the Hydragun on the market. We reached out to Hydragun directly and asked if they were the same. Their response was reassuring.
The representative at Hydragun went into a great amount of detail outlining how and why they’re different. From the manufacturing to the quality control process, they insist they’re actively involved with every facet, unlike their competitors.
For us, it’s refreshing to see a company that proactively strives to deliver the best product possible. As we’ve said many times in the past, a massage gun is only as good as the company that sells it.
Where To Buy The Hydragun
Currently, the Hydragun is only being sold direct to consumer directly through their website. It’s available worldwide with 7-9 day shipping. That said, Hydragun has distribution centers in both Singapore and Australia, so if you’re a resident in either of those two countries, you may receive it sooner.
Every order comes with a 30 day risk-free guarantee. If you’re on the fence whether you’ll like it or not, that benefit is available. Based on our hands-on experience, we think you’ll agree, the Hydragun is a keeper.
